Appearance: Garaith has a fearsome appearance, obviously undead and powerfully magical. He has a fleshless skull with three curving horns and a pair of frighteningly long saber-fangs. His eyes glow luminously and he has a mane of fire around his neck, as well as his front legs. His front feet are bones, as are his skeletal wings and half of his tail. The rest of his body is covered in short, fine black fur with red stripes. His back legs are hooved with a fringe of red fur.
Personality: Garaith is a staunch and noble beast, loyal to a fault and protective of his companions. He has a fierce temper and is dangerous in a fight, but fortunately, he is not often eager to fight. He is patient most of the time, except when it comes to close-minded or arrogant people. He has a honeyed tongue and an elegant turn of phrase that puts people at ease in his presence and, coincidentally, makes them easier to subtly suggest things to.
Past: Once upon a time a living, graceful creature, Garaith was captured by a group of necromancers who used him for experimenting with new spells. He quickly became so twisted by the spells that he was unrecognizable in appearance. He finally begged them to end his life, and they did so--only to gleefully bring him back in an undead form, slowly rotting away. He was bound to their wills and unable to fight back until he discovered his own magic, gifted by his revivification. He used it to revenge himself upon the necromancers who had tortured him so, paying back all the pain they'd put him through.
As he learned the limits of his new magic, he was able to stop and to some extent fix the slow decay of his body, altering bits and peices at a time until reaching his current appearance. He wandered around for awhile, unable to fit in due to his frightful appearance. Then he discovered the nexus and dragons. He himself bonded to a dragonlike creature, but unfortunately he outlived his bond, unable to die. He developed his magic even more, and stumbled across Marlia-Neura and Gawyn's manor. It took while because of Gawyn's antisocial attitude, but they became close enough that Gawyn agreed to the bond. What he didn't know was that Garaith had refined his magic to the point where, not only did he have the ability to bond himself, but he passed his immortality on to Gawyn as well.
