Appearance: Liyola is quite possibly the ugliest girl in the settlement. Her nose is pushed in, her ears stick out and are too big, her teeth are crooked and her skin could really use some help; not to mention an unsightly purple birthmark covers the right side of her face from eyebrow to hairline to collarbone! She often combs her brown hair over her face to try to hide it.
Personality: Liyola is a book person or an animal person... maybe even a plant person! Basically anything except a people person. Due to all her time with books, she is very educated and has some very specialized knowledge in obscure fields such as poisonous plant stem developmental biology and venus fly trap genetic drift.
Past: Born and raised in a Weyr, Liyola was always expected to Impress a dragon, though she was never enthusiastic about the idea herself. Her father died when she was quite young, choosing to poison himself when his dragon was killed, and her mother had no interest in raising a daughter. Liyola was raised by a foster mother and has no siblings. Considering how the riders in her life ended up, it's probably not surprising that Liyola herself was against Impressing for a very long time. She only stood officially for one clutch just after she turned twelve, and then, considering her duty as a weyrbrat to stand fulfilled, she watched other Hatchings only from the stands if she attended at all.
Not that that stopped Kioqawth, of course. Liyola had chosen to skip the Hatching entirely despite the presence of a queen egg, and was working in the nearby kitchens to prepare meat for the hatchlings when the gold broke out of her shell. No sooner had Liyola stepped foot within the Hatching cavern with her latest delivery than the little queen discarded the female candidates (after mauling at least one unlucky girl), and demanded that Liyola take care of her and feed her immediately. It caused quite a stir, and no one was more surprised or dismayed than Liyola--not that she had Impressed, despite Kioqawth's attitude, but that she would now be expected to do all the duties of a Junior Weyrwoman, something she considered herself completely unsuited for.
She slowly got used to things, though, and came to resent it a little less. Kioqawth, on the other hand, never really fixed her temper issues, and after one too many heated arguments with the older queens, she and Liyola were sent to Sedona Weyr.
