Name: S'ken (Sekeno)
Race: Human
Gender: Male
Rank:
Wingsecond
Age: 23, 17 at Impression
Build: Thin
Hair: Dark blond,
full, to nape of neck
Skin: Darkly tanned
Eyes: Light
blue
Personality: Years on his own has made Sekeno cold and withdrawn.
His default expression is a blank stare, and people rarely see anything else
unless they've spent a significant amount of time around him--not likely,
considering his holdless status. He never learned to read, and never really
wanted to anyway. He tends to scorn the scholarly types and dislikes anyone who
acts as if they're better than him (and that includes being smarter than him).
He wouldn't ever let them know it, however, as he strives to be respectful to
everyone; it never hurts to seem respectable to people--you never know when they
might hold your fate in their hands. He does have a soft spot for fellow
holdless, however, and actually shares willingly the little he has with those
who need it--it's hard to ignore hungry stares when you know what it feels like
to go hungry.
Past: Sekeno was born to an unmarried couple who
nevertheless had four children together. They traveled with a band of other
holdless, constantly on the move and spent most of their time in the wilderness,
only taking shelter in Holds on rare occasions to gather information or
"acquire" supplies. It was many years before Sekeno realized that their method
of acquiring supplies was to steal it from the holders. It didn't bother him
overmuch, though, since it was the way he had grown up, and he and his siblings
often helped the others transfer the goods out of the Hold.
Such a risky
lifestyle could not last forever, of course, and eventually the small band of
holdless were caught and tried for their crimes. The adults were banished to a
deserted island, along with Sekeno's two older siblings. Sekeno was only eleven
at the time, however, and it was decided that he and his younger sister could
not be held accountable and they were fostered. They still had to deal with the
stigma of their parents' crimes, however, and Sekeno harbored resentment towards
the holders who took his parents away. He had spent scarcely a turn at the Hold
before he ran away, falling back to the familiar life of thievery, often joining
up with other bands of holdless or packs of unruly children, though never for
long.
He spent three turns on his own, but then Thread came; he nearly died
the first time he got caught in Threadfall, and there were plenty of close calls
after that. Many Holders became more sympathetic to him and his kind,
fortunately, and he could often ask for shelter for as long as Thread was
falling. It was during such a Threadfall that he was first searched. The local
watchdragon had strained a wing earlier and he and his rider were stationed at
the Hold instead of fighting. Unbeknownst to Sekeno, he had been noticed by the
watchdragon, a particularly sensitive blue, and his rider had intended to find
him after the Threadfall and officially Search him--except that Sekeno had
already left by then, practically kicked out of the Hold for trying to steal
food.
Dragonriders searched for him for three weeks before one of them
managed to track him down, and even then, he nearly escaped, thinking he was
going to be caught for thievery. Instead, the searchrider reassured him that he
was not in trouble, and suggested that Sekeno could do something more productive
for Pern, by riding a dragon. He scarcely believed it at first, but he decided
to trust the rider and was taken to Sedona Weyr. As the clutch hatched, he
stayed in the back of the crowd, rarely approaching any hatchlings--especially
the larger and more intimidating bronze and browns. Burrodoth didn't care about
that, though--despite Sekeno's reluctance to Impress at first, the brown pushed
past all the other candidates to find him, and well, once he met the dragon's
eyes, all his doubts melted away.
Bond: Brown Burrodoth
From: Sedona
Weyr
Name: Burrodoth
Race: Pernese Dragon
Gender:
Male
Color: Brown
Size: 32' long
Parents: Gold Ykauth x Bronze Shyveth
Abilities: Telepathy, Teleportation, Assisted Firebreath
Personality: Exactly like his rider, Burrodoth is cold and
withdrawn, rarely speaking to anyone except his rider. It could be said he likes
people, but really, he likes observing them and their interactions without
taking part in them. He's probably too small to ever catch a gold, so he's
concentrated his attention on greens and can get aggressive during flights;
he'll do whatever he needs to catch the dragoness. It may be dirty and tricky,
but it gets results--he wins many of the flights he participates in, though he's
the love 'em and leave 'em type. Despite his introvertive nature, he has a good
understanding of people, and during their training he was an exceptionally
dedicated fighter, always following the orders of their leader meticulously, and
though S'ken might be content with being a regular wingrider, Burrodoth has
taken it into his head that they will be wingseconds to S'rey, whatever it
takes, and he's started to train S'ken to improve as well.
