Name: Tain
Race: Human
Gender: Male
Age: 15
Build:
Thin
Skin: Fair with freckles
Hair: Light brown, curly, to ears
Eyes:
Hazel brown
Personality: Generally an outgoing, extroverted individual
who likes to be around others. He is not particularly talkactive, but neither is
he shy, and he is rarely seen without one or two friends by his side. He can be
quite determined and a bit reckless when he knows what he wants, but the rest of
the time, he tends to be aimless and unmotivated. One thing he definitely wants
is a dragon (not like Rascha) of his own.
Past: Tain's family immigrated to
Darkling Dawn when he was a young child when the offworld kingdom they came from
was ravaged by war with their neighbors. Being a cheerful and outgoing child,
Tain adjusted quickly to his new home, and has made many friends. One of the
closest of these, of course, is Rascha, a young dragon who arrived shortly after
Tain's family did, and they have been nigh unseperable since.
Bond: Red
Nait
From: Nidus Avengaea's Conglomerate Clutch
Name: Rascha
Race: Dragon
Gender: Male
Age: Exact Age Unknown, Young
Adult
Build: Thin and lanky
Scales: Dusky purple
Eyes:
Gold
Personality: Very serious minded and not very humorous, that's not
to say that he doesn't try on occasion, if only for Tain's sake. He is more
down-to-earth and sensible than his friend, very cautious and not willing to do
anything that's dangerous. He is not too outgoing, but he is quite fond of
rukels and has many friends among them. He is somewhat intimidated by Darkling
Dawn's dragons, so much bigger than himself (him being only about the size of a
small pony), but he'd rather stay with Tain than stay at home by
himself.
Past: Rascha found his way to Darkling Dawn with the rukels' help
when he was a hatchling. His family was hunted down and slaughtered by knights
on their homeworld, and his mother died bravely trying to keep her brood from
being discovered by the humans. Rascha and his clutchmates escaped, and though
he doesn't know what became of his siblings, he has every reason to believe they
survived. Meanwhile, he found the small cat-like creatures called rukels and
befriended some of them. They seem to have a talent for finding their way to and
from Darkling Dawn, and brought him along with them to a place where he was
welcome.

The Hatching Cavern was dark that night, with neither Pernese glows nor lit
torches to light it up. If one was to witness it, they would have seen two dark
shapes creeping towards the center of the sands. One was tall but very thin,
humanoid in shape, while the other was clearly quadrupedal, with reptilian limbs
and a distinct crest of ridges running down its back. They took great pains to
be silent, but they were taken by surprise when a strong, bright light focused
on them. They blinked painfully in the bright light and shielded their eyes with
an arm or forelimb. One was a young human lad, the other, a tiny wingless dragon
with dusky purple scales.
"What are the two of you doing in here?" demanded
the young woman staring at them suspiciously. Her name was Ellone, and she was
one of Darkling Dawn's searchriders. Tain, of course, recognized her
immediately.
The boy cast his eyes about him as he tried to think up an
excuse, but he gave a gasp. "Hey, what happened to the eggs!?" he exclaimed
disappointedly.
Ellone crossed her arms. "They hatched earlier today, of
course. I wasn't here, of course, I was at Nidus Avengaea, but didn't you
know?"
Tain scowled, ignoring Rascha's "I told you so" look beside
him. "I was hoping to sneak in while the eggs were hatching. I've been coming in
and out all week, trying to keep an eye on them and make sure I don't miss it,
and I did anyway."
Ellone gave a roll of her eyes. "You could have just
signed up as a candidate."
"No, my parents wouldn't let me." He frowned, then
his eyes sharpened as he realized something, and he stared at Ellone hopefully.
"Where did you say you came from?" he asked, trying to sound casual.
She
answered, and his eyes lit up mischeivously. Rascha muttered, "Oh, no," beside
him as he spun around to the dragon and said, "I've got an idea! You've got your
rukel friends, they could show us the way to this Nidus Avengaea place. Then I
can bond a dragon there. There is a clutch there, right?"
It was late at
night and Ellone was too tired to pay much attention to the kids. She agreed,
thinking of her bed wistfully, and walked off, ignoring Tain's triumphant cry
and Rascha's persistant protests of "Your parents are going to kill you, you
know."
Tain just waved it off. "They'll get over it. Let's leave. You coming,
Rascha?" Rascha sighed and gave a dragonish shrug. Why not?
