She was bored. Horribly, mind-numbingly so. Wouldn't you be too if you'd spent the last dozen weeks in a cramped shell with another dragon? It wasn't surprising that she was anxious to get out, and it came as a relief when her mother and father began to bugled and hum. She and her sister both struggled to fight their way out of their shared egg. All at once, the shell fell away around them, and they landed on a heap on the hot ground.
Another pair of twins, browns, were already bonding as they picked themselves apart and straightened themselves. The greens both grinned at each other. Her larger night green sister pounced on top of an as-of-yet unhatched egg, and she rushed to do the same.
My name is Ulipath! I want to go with Utumith! She shouted from the top of the egg, somehow knowing her brother's name who had hatched earlier. The egg wobbled and fell over beneath her, and the green toppled over onto the sand.
Ulipath sat up and shook the sand from her hide and cleaned dirt from her claws nonchalently. I meant to do that. She said as she rushed off to be fed.
She trotted into the kitchen, where cut meat had been laid out for the hatchlings. Several new riders were feeding bite-sized peices to hungry hatchlings, eyes locked on their new bondmates, still unbelieving. She spotted Utumith on the far end, where the night blue was wolfing down chunks of roast wherry.
Nearby stood two large dragons, one about the size of a brown, the other larger than a gold, and gold-colored as well. The smaller one, green with a tan underbelly, prowled over to the hatchling green. Ulipath looked up at the female curiously. Hello!
The dragon looked down at Ulipath with deep brown eyes and smiled. "Hello. My name's Okael. What's your's?" The dragon asked kindly, squatting down and craning her head to look the hatchling in the eye.
Ulipath crooned. I'm Ulipath. The night blue over there is my brother, Utumith. Are you here to take us to our new home?
Okael nodded her head in assent. "Yes, Ryaan and I will take care of you until you've grown. You'll come with us, to live at Darkling Dawn, once you're old enough to travel."
Ulipath grinned up at the earth elemental dragon. 'Kay. She chirped, eyes whirling happily with green and blue.

Hee. See? I knew it would pay off eventually.
Utumith and Ulipath had been far from bored during their stay on Avengaea. Surrounded by a gaggle of young Asandus kits at the compound, they made friends easily, and were even given a tour of the city. Now they were at a special dinner, celebrating the fact that they would soon bond. The food was good, despite the short notice and the fact that there were only two candidates, but the two young dragons were quivering with excitement.
At the end of the dinner when their names were called, they both gasped and stood excitedly, but for once, they were both silent as they waited in anticipation. Two Asandus kits slipped from the table, holding bonding scrolls. Videi Avestis was a female Piralan; her companion was Esaude Procallan, a Makanan male. Like Utumith and his sister, the two of them were rarely apart, so their decision now was not too big a surprise.
The Piralan strolled up to Ulipath with a knowing grin on her face. "We know your secret." Videi whispered as Esaude approached Utumith, trying to appear more confident than he actually was.
"And what better way to find out about us, than to bond us and bring us home?" Esaude added with a sage nod. He held up his scroll, and Videi, grinning, did the same.
Ulipath shared a quick glance with her brother before agreeing, You know, you're probably right! The dragonets took the scrolls, and there were two quick, bright flashes of light.
Wow, really. Neat! Utumith exclaimed to the now-smiling Esaude, and the crowd burst into applause behind them.
