Personality: V'ay is strong-willed and determined; he tends not to show his emotions a lot, but then, he's been through a lot in his life, and he prefers not to burden others with his problems. This doesn't make him a truckload of friends, of course, and he tends to have trouble related to other people. He tries not to think about it too hard; he prefers to just do his job and do it competently, and spend the rest of his time with Falcath.
Past: V'ay's parents are both traders in a travelling caravan, and he and his siblings grew up on the road. He got into the same business as his parents as he got older, and once he turned eighteen, he struck out on his own trail with his newly-married wife. Two turns later, disaster struck, as the young couple were caught unprepared by an uncharacteristic Threadfall. Vaydrall escaped with only a single mild scoring on his left side, but his wife was much worse off, and she passed away after an agonizing night.
The dragonriders who found them after the Fall took Vaydrall back with them to Sedona Weyr, partly because the dragons thought he would be suitable for the clutch on the sands. He found it hard to believe he was still eligible at twenty, but since the dragons insisted, he agreed to stand for the clutch, still unsure if he was even proper candidate material. He had always preferred the smaller, quicker dragons, and he was quite pleased when Falcath picked him out of the crowd.
