Candidates
Falas Weyr
Adren gasped as the black
dragon burst from between. He stared down, marveling at the strange look of the
FGPC. He'd never seen anything like it before. He braced himself as the black
dragon backwinged, landing. He jumped off, staring around him.
Cerid jumped
off the Silver-White beside him, staring at the hold. J'ril and Maeve led them
down to a large building, where they were met by a scientist. He nodded
and led the two candidates away.
They came to another room, where there were
about eight different structures holding fire lizard eggs inside.
"Those are
the incubators. You can take a fire lizard egg if you want." The scientist
said.
Adren grinned, stepping toward one of the incubators. He spotted an egg
rocking gently, and the scientist came over, taking it out and handing it to
him. The egg cracked down the middle, splitting neatly in two. A tiny brown fire
lizard lay in his hands. It flexed it's wings, revealing black membranes. "A
Brown-Black." The scientist said, handing him a bowl of meat for the hatchling.
Cerid was staring at another egg, rocking violently. The scientist handed it
to her, as it hatched into a creeling Gold flit, with brilliant deep-blue wings.
"A Gold-Blue" The scientist said, also handing her a bowl of meat.
They
stood, feeding their newly hatched flits, until the hatchlings fell asleep. Then
they were led to another room, where the dragon eggs were hardening on the
sands. Adren gasped as he glanced at the eggs. There were all kinds of different
sizes and colors, more than he could count. He wondered what he would Impress.
If he Impressed.
Cerid glanced at a pale, silver-gray colored egg. She was
tempted to touch it's smooth surface, but they had been warned not to touch the
eggs. She glanced at Adren, watching as he stared at a dark blue colored
egg.
Cerid yawned as they left the sands, stroking her Gold-blue flit, which
she had decided to call Oseina. They were led to the candidate dorms. She
sighed, laying down on the bed. She was tired, and it had been a long day. She
was soon fast asleep.
Over the next few days, they learned more about
dragons then they ever thought they could learn. Adren was excited at the mere
idea of Impressing a dragon, much less a rare. He was often found near the eggs,
stroking his brown-black Nure.
They were also both kept busy with lessons, as
Cerid struggled to use a computer. Adren seemed to pick it up easily enough, but
Cerid hated to use a computer and couldn't get the hang of it. She found herself
asking for help from Adren much more than she would have liked. They both slowly
settled into life at the FGPC, and anxiously waited for the clutch to
hatch.
