Jaran blinked again as he entered the abandoned caverns for a second time.
The single bronze dragon looked up as he entered.
Oh.
It's you again.
Jaran ignored the bronze, rubbing his bruised
face gently as he fed the abandoned dragons. A familiar brown head looked up at
him. Narveth's swirling eyes were tinted with yellow, showing his
worry.
What happened to your face? The
brown dragon demanded.
Jaran grinned, somewhat sheepishly. "Got in a fight
with another boy." He mumbled. "That's why I'm down here, as a punishment. But
it's okay, I don't really mind it." He added.
Fighting? What about?
Jaran replied hesitantly.
"Well, umm...Actually, about you."
Nerveth's eyes swirled. Me?
"Yeah, well, the abandoned dragons,
anyway." Jaran answered.
Oh...Then, as if
suddenly making up his mind, Narveth said, Jaran? Are
you, well, do you want a dragon?
Jaran blinked. "Well, yeah, of
course. But I suppose there's not really much chance that I'd get searched, I
guess."
Narveth's eyes whirled thoughtfully. Yeah.
Guess not...
Jaran stood up, preparing to leave. "Well, goodbye,
Narveth."
Narveth didn't answer, staring after him as he stepped out of the
caverns.
Jaran paled as he ran into Nylor again right outside the
abandoned caverns. "You again?"
Nylor scowled at him. "Yes, me. Now would you
hold still for once so I can beat you up?"
Jaran rolled his eyes. "Yeah, why
didn't I think of that." Looking up, Jaran saw that Nylor had stopped, and was
staring at something behind him, terror-stricken."Huh?"
Jaran turned. Narveth
stood snarling at Nylor, eyes swirling red furiously. He turned back to Nylor,
but he was already running away. Jaran fought back a laugh as he turned back to
the bemused brown dragon.
Narveth shook his head. Honestly, you just can't stay out of trouble, can
you?
Jaran laughed. "Guess not, Narveth."
Looks like I'm gonna have to go with you, then. To keep you
out of trouble. The brown dragon said decisively.
Jaran looked
up. "What? You mean-"
Narveth nodded. Of course,
Jaran. Or, should I say, J'ran?
J'ran laughed, reaching up to
stroke his brown's
eyeridges.
