Sevar shifted his feet nervously as he stood on the sands with the rest of
the candidates. He'd hurriedly grabbed a biscuit for breakfast and raced to the
hatching sands when he heard the humming that meant the queen's clutch was
hatching. He watched the eggs anxiously, dearly hoping that this time, he might
Impress.
Two green broke their shells, followed closely by a blue. Sevar's
eyes followed the blue as the two greens bonded, but the blue went to a young
woman. During this time, a brown had hatched, and quickly bonded, and five
dragonets were left to choose among six candidates. A blue bonded, then a brown,
then another blue, then another brown...Two of the blues had raced towards the
candidates, which ended in a squabble. The first blue, victorious, went
immediately to his chosen.
The second blue creeled a bit in pain, and Sevar
rushed to his side. "Refinterth, are you okay?" He asked.
Sorry I didn't win,
S'var...
Sevar smiled, realizing that he had at last Impressed a dragon of
his own. "It's okay, Refinterth. I don't care that you didn't win. But you will
need to see a Healer." He said, hurrying the little blue off the sands
worriedly.
Refinterth snorted.
Well, at least I'm getting off the sands faster, even if
I didn't win the race.
S'var just smiled and agreed with his
dragon.
