Hitomi stood nervously with the other candidates, whose attention was focused
on the wriggling eggs. Hitomi was trying to pick out Elewen from the mass of
candidates. He spotted her near the back and began to edge backward discreetly,
but he was swept up in the forward rush as the first of the eggs hatched.
A
large brown dragon emerged and bonded a girl, followed by a blue who also bonded
a girl. Hitomi hoped he wouldn't end up impressing a green dragon. Boy, would
that be embarrassing.
The queen egg hatched and the little gold chose her
bond. A smaller egg cracked, and a green hatchling came out. The little green
dragon raced straight to Elewen, and announced to the world that her name was
Koneth.
A blue hatchling followed, and Hitomi watched it anxiously, but the
blue went to a girl named Kaarewen.
Disappointed, he watched as another two
eggs hatched, and the blue and green hatchling that emerged began to fight.
Hitomi smiled as he grabbed the blue's tail and stopped him from lunging at his
sister. "Armuketh, you don't need to chase her. There's only one green you ought
to watch out for, that's Elewen's pretty Koneth..." He said to his
dragon.
The blue dragon snorted. Yuck! Who cares
about girls! Right now all I'm interested in is food. Armuketh said,
butting H'omi's leg impatiently.
H'omi laughed and followed his bond as he
raced off the
sands.
