D'cien &
V'nen
Dacien looked at the myriad
fire lizards flitting around excitedly. He glanced at his younger brother,
Valkoinen. They had inadvertantly stumbeled upon a nest of wild fire lizards.
Valkoinen kept his eyes soley on the eggs, which were starting to rock
slightly. His brown eyes lit up as he saw the slight movements of the
eggs.
"Dacien!" He whispered, excited.
"What?" His brother hissed, blue
eyes on the golden mother of the eggs.
"The eggs, they're rocking!" Valkoinen
said, grabbing a meatroll and breaking it into smaller peices.
Dacien glanced
at his brother. "The queen's not gonna let us get near the eggs, anyway,
Valkoinen. Don't even bother."
Valkoinen ignored his brother. True, his
chances of getting a baby flit were slim, but he could still hope...
He
watched as the queen screeched at the other adult lizards as they popped
between, coming back with fish clutched in their foreclaws. She
crooned at her rocking eggs as the first one began to crack. The egg split
neatly down the middle, and broke open to reveal a dark brown fire lizard. A
large bronze nudged a peice of fish towards the hatchling, which it eagerly dug
into.
Dacien rolled his eyes as his brother watched the eggs intently,
meatrolls in hand. The next egg to hatch revealed a dark blue, which leaped over
another egg, not quite making it over. The little blue creeled, and was answered
by his mother. He crawled towards the meat, kicking over the other egg. It
cracked to reveal a green muzzle. The young green scolded her brother angrily,
pushing him out of the way. The blue creeled as he stood up again.
Dacien
heard Valkoinen gasp, and looked over to see his younger brother luring a light
bronze hatchling toward him. The light bronze eagerly latched onto the boy's
hand, gobbling down the food.
"Watch out he doesn't bite your hand off."
Dacien said.
Valkoinen grinned triumphantly. "A bronze. And you said I
couldn't get one."
"I never said you couldn't." Dacien said. "Just that you
couldn't get close to the nest without attracting the mother's
attention."
"Sure." Valkoinen said. "What should I name him? Maybe, Ryu, or
Rue?"
Dacien wasn't listening, as a bright golden hatchling had just
shattered her eggshell. The mother crooned at her golden daughter holding out a
peice of fish. Dacien was distracted as a small pair of claws suddenly dug into
his shoulder. He looked up to see a dark blue hatchling staring at him with
blue-green eyes.
Valkoinen laughed as Dacien and the blue hatchling just
stared at each other for a moment. He handed a meatroll to his brother, who fed
it to the blue, still staring at it. He was still grinning as he stroked his
bronze. "Rui! I'll name him Rui!" He finally decided.
Dacien jumped as he
heard his brother, dislodging the blue. He creeled, and was answered from
behind. Dacien turned to see the tiny gold fire lizard crawling slowly toward
him. He sighed, throwing a peice of a meatroll to it.
Valkoinen grinned. "So
much for not Impressing any, huh?"
Dacien's answer was cut off as they heard
a shrill screech from behind them. The queen fire lizard had noticed her gold
daughter missing, and lunged towards the two boys. They scrambled out of the
way, Dacien careful to keep his hold on the gold hatchling.
They ran off,
back to the Hold, as the wild queen screeched angrily at them.
By the
time they got to the Hold, they were out of breath, but the queen was no longer
chasing them. They were so excited with their fire lizards, that they didn't
notice the two dragonriders until Valkoinen bumped into one.
"Oh! I'm
terribly sorry, dragonrider!" He apologized, nervously glanceing at the woman's
green dragon.
She turned to Valkoinen and Dacien with a smile on her face.
"That's quite alright. Incidentally, my Dresynith has taken an interest in the
two of you."
Dacien glanced to the green dragon, who was looking curiously at
them, rainbow eyes swirling. "What?" He asked, confused.
The other woman
spoke up. "Maira and I are searchriders for Lantessama Isle. Our dragons have
decided you'd stand a good chance of Impressing."
Dacien gaped at the two
dragonriders, jaw dropping. "Us? Really? Umm, yes, of course we will!"
"I'm
Valkoinen." He spoke up from behind his brother. "And my brother is
Dacien."
"Oh, of course, I almost forgot! I am Maira, rider of Green
Dresynith." The first woman said.
"And I'm Saranna, rider of Blue Eklith.
Pleased to meet you." The other woman answered, as her blue dragon rumbled
impatiantly from behind her. She laughed. "Eklith's getting impatiant, come on,
we'll take you to Lantessama Isle."
They eagerly scrambled on the dragons
behind the riders, and they took off between.
